How to Survive the Summer in Your Third Trimester

If you’re pregnant and expecting a baby in the fall, you might be wondering how to cope with the summer heat and humidity.

Being pregnant can make you feel hotter than usual, and the third trimester can be especially challenging.

But don’t worry, there are some tips and tricks to help you stay cool and comfortable during the summer months.

Stay hydrated

One of the most important things you can do to survive the summer in your third trimester is to drink plenty of water.

Water helps regulate your body temperature, prevent dehydration, and reduce swelling.

Aim for at least eight glasses of water a day, and more if you’re sweating a lot.

You can also add some ice cubes, lemon slices, cucumber slices, or mint leaves to your water for some extra flavor and freshness.

Wear loose and breathable clothing

Another way to keep cool is to wear loose and breathable clothing that won’t trap heat or moisture.

Choose fabrics like cotton, linen, or bamboo that are light and airy.

Avoid synthetic fabrics like polyester or nylon that can make you feel sticky and uncomfortable.

You can also opt for light colors that reflect the sun’s rays, rather than dark colors that absorb them.

And don’t forget to wear a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen to protect yourself from the sun’s harmful UV rays.

Avoid peak hours of heat

If possible, try to avoid going outside during the peak hours of heat, which are usually between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

This is when the sun is strongest and the temperature is highest. Instead, plan your outdoor activities for early morning or evening, when it’s cooler and less crowded.

Cool off with water

Swimming can also help relieve some of the pressure and pain in your lower back and pelvis.

Just make sure you don’t stay in the water for too long, as it can lower your blood pressure and make you dizzy.

Eat light and healthy meals

Eating heavy and greasy meals can make you feel hotter and more sluggish. Instead, eat light and healthy meals that are easy to digest and won’t weigh you down.

Choose foods that are high in water content, such as fruits, vegetables, salads, soups, yogurt, or smoothies.

These foods can also help you stay hydrated and nourished.

Avoid foods that are spicy, salty, or caffeinated, as they can increase your body temperature and dehydrate you.

Rest and relax

Last but not least, don’t forget to rest and relax as much as you can.

Being pregnant is hard work, and you deserve some pampering and self-care.

Take naps whenever you feel tired, or lie down with your feet elevated to reduce swelling.

You can also do some gentle exercises like yoga, stretching, or walking to improve your blood circulation and mood.

Or you can treat yourself to a massage, a pedicure, or a movie night with your partner or friends.

Surviving the summer in your third trimester might seem daunting, but it doesn’t have to be miserable.
