Pregnancy is a time of great personal and physical changes as you prepare to welcome a new baby into your family.

You’ll no doubt have many questions when you find out you’re pregnant.

I know I had many questions when I was pregnant.

Congratulations are in order mama! 🎉

I bet you are wondering now what!?!?!

Read on for the answers to your common early pregnancy questions!

WHEN SHOULD I SEE A DOCTOR?

Experts recommend seeing a doctor as soon as possible to confirm the pregnancy and discuss any concerns as well as your prenatal care plan.

So do you research, find some reputable Dr.’s in your area and make an appointment mama.

WHAT AM I NOT ALLOWED TO DO WHILE PREGNANT?

The answer here is complex.

While there are some definite universal no-nos (no drugs, no contact sports, and more), there are many other gray areas.

If you have questions about a particular activity, medication, or food, you should always check with your MD.

WHAT DO I EAT?

Again, this answer will vary a bit from person to person.

The important thing is to take a prenatal vitamin and eat a healthy and varied diet that emphasizes whole foods.

Your doctor will likely have specific dietary recommendations based on your nutritional status and medical history.

If you want to learn more about pregnancy diet I do have a category section on this blog just for that and you can find it here.

CAN I EXERCISE?

Unless there is a medical contraindication to exercising, you should participate in your regular activities as you are able.

Exercising according to your ability throughout pregnancy can help you keep healthy, as well as preparing you for a smoother labor and delivery.

CAN I STILL WEAR MAKEUP OR USE MY FAVORITE MOISTURIZER?

There is no reason to discontinue the use of over-the-counter cosmetic products unless they are causing problems for you.

Many pregnant women find that certain scented products make them feel nauseous, while others experience skin changes, in which case you may wish to skip it.

If you are worried about toxic chemicals and harsh scents during pregnancy you can check out this amazing pregnancy subscription box service that will help with the guessing game.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I AM HAVING A MISCARRIAGE?

Miscarriages are, unfortunately, not uncommon.

If you experience heavy cramping or bleeding, you should contact your doctor immediately, as these could be signs of an impending miscarriage.

WHEN WILL I START TO SHOW?

This varies greatly from woman to woman.

Many – but not all – women can see a small bump by the beginning to middle of month 3.

Almost everyone is very obviously pregnant by 5 months.

WHAT WILL LABOR AND DELIVERY BE LIKE?

This is a topic that cannot possibly be answered in just a few sentences.

However, the short answer is that it will be exhilarating, exhausting, and ultimately one of the most rewarding times of your life.

Reading about the stages of labor and delivery will help you to feel more confident and prepared for what is ahead, as will taking a labor class and touring your hospital or birth center.

Every woman’s experience is different but rest assured that you can do it!

HAVE YOU TAKEN YOUR PRENATAL CLASS YET?

Preparing for childbirth is a wonderful thing to do, so you know exactly what to expect.

If you need to take an online prenatal class, this specific class was created by Hilary (a labor and delivery nurse + in-person prenatal class instructor) and she will teach you everything you need to know before, during, and after delivery!

SO if you are still wondering what’s to come, check out this online prenatal class here.

SHOULD I TAKE A BREASTFEEDING CLASS TOO?

Yes! Experts recommend taking a class, as – despite the common perception – breastfeeding does not always come naturally in the beginning.

The more you know about what to expect the more confident you will feel and the more skills and tips you will have, which can help put you on the right track for a successful breastfeeding relationship.

The Milkology online breastfeeding classes are perfect for new breastfeeding moms! The best part is that it is taken online, on-demand, & at your own pace. Learn how to breastfeed in your jammies!
